Class 3 Video Chapter Outline

Chapter 1 - IPD Commercial:
Institute For Personal Development, Inc. is a Kriya Yoga Ashram with classes, programs and services.

Chapter 2 - Asana Introduction:
I. Asana means posture.
a. Body is means not goal.
b. Body is manifestation of inner thought process.
c. Consciousness is the goal and we train the mind to serves spirit and train the body to serve the mind.
II. History of Asana.
a. Necessity of Posture.
b. Internal support.

Chapter 3 - Asana Misalignments:
1. Energy does not move through the body.
2. Crimp in the hose.
3. Accumulate weight in the body.

Chapter 4 - Misconceptions:
1. Asana equals Yoga.
2. Asana is stretching.
3. No such thing as doing a posture “wrong.”
4. Use the breath to find alignment.
a. Counter Point - Breath controls rate of thought.
b. Counter Point - Mind is the medium to move energy.

Chapter 5 - Procedure and Intention:
I. Muscles are like ropes and bones are like the poles of a tent.
a. Relativity of Posture.
II. Instillation of wood flooring.
a. Details of Asana.
III. History of Asana changes in lifestyle.
a. External Support as opposed to internal support.
b. Physiology mirrors psychology.
IV. Buddha and the musician teaching.
a. If your body is too strong it will snap and if it is too flexible it will not vibrate.

Chapter 6 - Asana Mental Awareness and Vehicle:
I. Mental work in Asana starts with a narrow field of awareness.
a. Dark room analogy using a flashlight.
b. In the same room with an overhead light on increases the field of awareness. Mind opens!
II. Mind is not limited to the body.
a. Learning how to move the mind.
b. Leaning curve.
c. Vehicle analogy.
d. Posture has procedure and intention along with the mental work.
III. Asana is a vehicle.

Chapter 7 - Asana Cellular Memory:
1. Changing the message on an answering machine.
2. Keep the body comfortable to make it receptive.
3. Be prepared to tell the body what you want it to do.

Chapter 8 - Asana Obstacles:
I. Four major obstacles corresponding to four elements.
a. Fear is water.
b. Ignorance is air.
c. Laziness is earth.
d. Selfishness is fire.
II. Physical functions that correspond with the elements.
a. Strength is earth.
b. Flexibility is air.
c. Alignment is water.
d. Endurance is fire.
1. Mental functions are Perception, reason, memory and intuition.
2. Asana practice targets physical functions, mental functions and obstacles to enlightenment.
3. Yoga means union and union is solution to common problems.

Chapter 9 - Asana Assistance:
1. No assisted postures.
2. Use of supportive props.
3. Subordinate props modify poses and still engage internal dynamics.

Chapter 10 - Asana Form and Breathing:
1. Structure of Kriya Yoga Asana Class.
2. Breathing Visualization Exercise.
3. Four parts of the Breathing Exercise.

Chapter 11 - Asana Mountain to Mountain:
1. Mountain Pose is the template for Asana.
2. Detailed Mountain Pose with the Mental Assignment.
3. Palm Tree with an Asana Reminder.
4. Crescent Moon both sides.
5. Jackknife and Rag Doll then back to Mountain Pose.

Chapter 12 - Asana Salutation Introduction:
1. Salutation to the Moon opens Ida nadi plus intentions.
2. Salutation to the Sun opens Pingala nadi plus intentions.
3. Body and mind working together.

Chapter 13 - Asana Salutations Precautions:
1. Breathing during instructions.
2. Back bends with posterior tilt to pelvis.
3. Forward bends with anterior tilt to pelvis.
4. Keeping the body comfortable and the mind active.

Chapter 14 - Asana Salutations:
1. Salutation to the Moon all twelve positions and representations.
2. Explain the three-step transition.
3. Salutation to the Sun all twelve positions and representations.

Class 3 / Chapter 15 - Asana Lightning Rod:
1. Grounding Exercise by aligning with the pulse of the universe.
2. Ida Nadi Visualization.
3. Pingala Nadi Visualization.

Chapter 16 - Asana Three Lock Pose:
1. Start in Mountain Pose.
2. Inhale into Prayer Position.
3. Exhale into Lock Position and apply the Locks.
4. Inhale release the Locks and return to Prayer Position.


Chapter 17 - Asana Recap and Assignments:
1. Make your practice manageable and enjoyable.
2. Maintain duration of longevity.
3. Start your exercise program accommodating all four aspects of fitness.
4. Read chapters 7 to 12 in Spiritual Science of Kriya Yoga by Goswami Kriyananda.
