Class 2 Video Chapter Outline

Chapter 1 - IPD Commercial:
Institute For Personal Development, Inc. is a Kriya Yoga Ashram with classes, programs and services.

Chapter 2 – Namaste:
Earlier civilizations marked points of passage and had rites of passage to establish human development. Map out The Process in Physiological, Psychological, and Spiritual Development.Look at the seven year cycle of transiting Saturn and the progressed Moon and the aspects to create the points of separation and formation.

Chapter 3 – Infant and First Point of Passage:
Infants need approval but to develop must separate from infantile defenses.
About age 7 is the age of reason and must be taught how to separate from mother. Go through the depression of leaving what is safe, familiar and comfortable.

Chapter 4 – Second and Third Points of Passage:
Around age 15 format sexuality and separate from parent of the opposite sex and introduce ourselves socially.
Around age 21 format values and separate from genetic inheritance, parental influences and social cultural conditioning. Becoming an individual.

Chapter 5 – Final Point of Passage:
Around age 28 the bill is due and we must individuate.
II. Guilt - No quest for Wholeness; Fear is the defense mechanism for depression and it is loaded with Guilt, Shame, Anger, Resentment, Blame, Emptiness and Boredom-- all coming from the hidden potential to Grow.
All the people who never developed their independence from their unconscious patterns and infantile defense mechanisms are struggling with these symptoms.
Stress is simply a “cramp in Consciousness” and positive growth of consciousness is a solution and not just relief.
Lao Tzu riding a bull and Jesus walking on water symbolize intelligence over instinct.

Chapter 6 – Christian Points:
Holy Communion at age 7, Confirmation at age 14, Matrimony at age 21 and Holy Orders at age 28.

Chapter 7 – Niyamas Introduction:
Niyamas are the observances purity, contentment, austerity, sacred study and centering on a Divinity. The Niyamas expand the practice of Yoga into a path of action, a path of knowledge and a path of devotion.

Chapter 8 – Purity (Shaucha):
Moderation is not purification.
Physical - Diet--Skillful use of thought, breath, water and food and exercise-- strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. Yoga Shat Kriyas to purify the body.
1. Astral/mental - Skillful use of thought. Purity is adherence to a legitimate value system and the ability to feel, think, say and do one thing.
2. Causal/spiritual – purge your thoughts and philosophy of all erroneous concepts, theories, patterns and beliefs. Know your essential need and use it to validate your sense of self.

Chapter 9 – Substitution:
The easiest way to get out from under unnecessary dependencies is to substitute and the secret to substitution is to substitute necessary for unnecessary.

Chapter 10 - Contentment (Santosha):
1. Internal support the difference between self-reliance and self-esteem.
2. Solution begins with circumstances as they are.
3. Change the things you can change, accept the things you can’t change and study for the wisdom to know the difference between the two.

Chapter 11 – Austerity (Tapas):
1. Discipline is exercise for the psychological organs to strengthen the WILL.
2. Discipline is not repression.
3. Adherence to strategies.
4. Fasting.
5. Concentration.

Chapter 12 – Sacred Study (Svadhyaya):
Path of Knowledge – Bad habits create limits.
1. Learn how creation takes place in accordance with the law of opposites.
2. Develop a reality system that is in accordance to universal order.

Chapter 13 – Attunement to the Absolute (Isvhar-Pranidhana):
Path of Devotion - Centering on a Divinity
1. Faith in something bigger than yourself.
2. Humility for Divine assistance.
3. Reverence for universal power.
4. Manifest yourself in your concept of a Divinity.

Chapter 14 – Relativity:
Everything affects everything.

Chapter 15 – Socialization:
An observation of western influences on daily life and the lose of ancient wisdom.

Chapter 16 – Recap and Assignments:
Key points and home work.
